Morris County Economic Development Corporation Committees

The Morris County Economic Development Corporation Committees are diverse and important. They were designed to not only increase participation but to attract local expertise in areas that will ensure the advancement of economic development throughout Morris County. Our committees strive to engage as many stakeholders as possible and meet as needed. In addition, they also host informative events and discussions on topics of strategic economic development priority for Morris County.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is directed to work with the Executive Director to propose a corporate budget for the next fiscal year presented at the December Board meeting and advise the MCEDC staff of current market and lending trends. Additionally, the Finance Committee shall work to educate Morris County businesses on the various financing options that they can pursue to help grow or expand their business. This can be done through on-site visits with businesses and educational workshops and seminars. The Finance Committee, in conjunction with the Marketing and Membership Committee, provides input on the fundraising initiatives of the organization and also use of funds for special projects.

Nominating Committee

Marketing & Membership Committee

The Marketing Committee will assist in the development of appropriate marketing initiatives and materials to promote Morris County and the organization. These include website development, video production, digital marketing strategy, social media

The Marketing Committee will assist in the development of appropriate marketing initiatives and materials to promote Morris County and the organization. These include website development, video production, digital marketing strategy, social media outreach, and webinars. The Committee will engage in the identification of publicity opportunities, local speaking engagements, regular media coverage, and preparation and distribution of newsletters and other publications to inform brokers, site selectors, investors, businesses, municipalities, stakeholders, prospects , and the general public about the value of locating and expanding in Morris County and also highlight the EDC’s activities, purposes, goals, and accomplishments. The Committee will also recommend membership categories and levels of sponsorship to the Advisory Board and oversee the MCEDC ambassador program.

Memorandum of Understanding and Strategic Planning Committee

The purpose of the Committee shall be to periodically review the organization’s internal strategic plan and by-laws and make recommendations to the Advisory Board. The committee will also work closely with the Executive Director to draft, review, and revise an internal strategic plan for the organization at least every three (3) years.

Brownfields and Redevelopment Committee

The Committee’s purpose is to educate communities, The Committee’s purpose is to educate communities, businesses, and practitioners on model practices in the development of Brownfield properties and to provide insight on issues surrounding the remediation of environmentally impacted sites. The Committee will review and provide input on Brownfields legislation impacting economic development and will work to build relationships with key legislators and regulatory agencies.

Technology Committee

The Technology Committee works to promote Morris County as a hub of innovation and entrepreneurship. The committee collaborates with local and state colleges and universities, technology incubators and accelerators, and other regional and state partners. The committee monitors technology

The committee monitors technology innovations, maintains a directory of local technology companies, and provides oversight for technology related networking events. The committee will also consist of several subcommittees including fin-tech, cyber security, and incubators. The committee also assists with ideas related to marketing and outreach to attract technology businesses to Morris County.

Life Science Committee

The Life Science committee works to leverage existing regional life sciences assets and to link the elements of an innovation ecosystem (research, entrepreneurship, venture capital, and life sciences companies) with the goal of increasing research density and accelerating research commercialization within the county.

Manufacturer’s Council

The Manufacturer’s Council will consist of owners and managers of manufacturers within the County and provide an opportunity for these businesses to gather, network, and collaborate on issues important to this industry sector including workforce, expansion

Aerospace and Defense Committee

This committee consists of defense and aerospace companies and contractors, and has a representation from the New Jersey Innovation Institute and the Picatinny Innovation Center. The committee also provides outreach to the aerospace and defense industry to understand and assist with the evolving the needs of the industry as it relates to changes in federal funding, supply chain, and innovation. The MCEDC partners with the NJII to develop challenges and programs that will support this industry within the county and state.

Workforce, Talent Supply, and Education Committee

This committee aims to increase the workforce and economic development linkages with education and business. This committee links local educational institutions and economic development agencies so they can share information to better link supply and demand in Morris County. This results in a process that ensures the pipeline of skilled workers is strong and that bridging the workforce gap is a continual and ongoing process. Members include the President of the County College of Morris, the Superintendent of the Vocational School District, and the Director of the Workforce Development Board for Morris,

Tourism, Parks and Arts & Culture committee

This committee is a collaborative effort of the MCEDC, Tourism, County Parks Commission and Morris Arts. The MCEDC recognizes that tourism is an economic driver and contributes positively to the quality of life within the county. Therefore, collaboration among the organizations is vital to long term sustained economic growth within Morris County. The mission of the committee is to promote the assets of the county through collaborative strategic planning, social media marketing efforts, and joint events.

Municipal Council

This council features elected and appointed representatives of the thirty-nine (39) local governments, local EDC representatives, and local chambers of commerce in Morris County. The intent is to engage the voices and perspectives of municipal government officials in a discussion of development issues such as planning, zoning, infrastructure, and regulation. The committee aims to provide quarterly seminars, workshops, and speakers on topics of interest to municipalities.

Real Estate Committee

This committee is comprised primarily of representatives of the following professions: commercial and industrial real estate brokers, site selectors, developers, bankers, corporate real estate directors, engineers, architects, construction professionals and those involved in the development and expansion of commercial and industrial business. The focus of the group will be on discussing market trends, identifying development needs and opportunities, and enhancing the strategic focus of MCEDC and the region to support growth and development.

Entrepreneurship Committee

The committee’s mission is to improve the entrepreneurial environment of Morris County by listening to the region’s entrepreneurs, identifying their unmet needs, communicating regional entrepreneurship initiatives between council members, and connecting entrepreneurs with resources. This committee is dedicated to identifying and reaching out to region’s entrepreneurial community and collaborating with educational institutions to identify ways to support and develop the entrepreneurial ecosystem, which will ultimate lead to new “starts,” and the subsequent growth and expansion of businesses within the County.

Allied Organization Committee

The Committee shall be comprised of representatives from allied organizations within Morris County as recommend by the MCEDC strategic plan. The committee will meet quarterly and plan a summit to be held every other year.

Economic Policy Council

The Council focuses on advancing economic development policy to address challenges of the competitive landscape, to advocate for changes, improvements and funding of state economic development and finance programs. The Council seeks partnerships and coalitions to advance economic development in Morris County and the state. The Council aims to ensure the best use of time and resources to advocate for the most-meaningful change and/or support of strategic economic development priorities and continues the partnership and cooperation with the Morris County Chamber of Commerce and the Government Affairs Committee on broader, general business issues.
