Committees and Initiatives
The Morris County Economic Development Corporation Committees were designed to
- increase participation and engage as many stakeholders as possible
- to attract local expertise in areas that will ensure the advancement of economic development throughout Morris County.

Life Science Committee – Works to leverage existing regional life sciences assets and to link the elements of an innovation ecosystem (research, entrepreneurship, venture capital, and life sciences companies) with the goal of increasing research density and accelerating research commercialization within the county.
Entrepreneur and Business Resource Committee – Mission is to advocate for the founding, growth and scale of county-based initiatives by promoting opportunities, resources, and connections that support business development and access to human and capital resources. StartupMoveupMorris – Working closely with Morris Tech Meetup, we promote Morris County as a hub of innovation and entrepreneurship. Committee members also provide marketing and outreach ideas to attract technology businesses to Morris County.
Real Estate Committee – Commercial and industrial real estate brokers, site selectors, developers, bankers, corporate real estate directors, engineers, architects, construction professionals and those involved in the development and expansion of commercial and industrial business form the membership. The group discusses market trends, identifying development needs and opportunities as well as enhancing the strategic focus of MCEDC and the region’s growth.
Brownfields and Redevelopment Committee – This subcommittee’s purpose is to educate communities, businesses and practitioners on model practices in development of Brownfield properties and to provide insight on issues surrounding the environmental remediation.
Housing Committee – We recognize the need for availability of diverse housing options to attract and maintain a talented workforce. The committee’s mission is to foster the development of housing as an engine for economic development in Morris County through education, program development and direct action. The committee focuses on trends in design, best practices in development and financing and also tracks litigation and legislation.
Cybersecurity, Data and Privacy Committee – The purpose of the committee is to: (1) educate organizations on reducing security, privacy, and data risks in a cost effective manner; (2) serve as a clearinghouse and sharing center for innovative ideas and practices across organization sizes and industries; and (3) promote Morris County as a hub for companies providing a range of cybersecurity and privacy services including insurance, legal, IT solutions, penetration testing, investigative, and overall best cyber security and privacy practices for businesses, organizations, and government. Webinars, aimed at businesses, are provided on an ongoing basis.
Manufacturer’s Council – Seeks to provide opportunities for businesses to gather, network and collaborate on issues important to this industry sector including workforce, expansion opportunities and challenges, supply chain, and innovation.
Aerospace and Defense Committee – This committee consists of defense and aerospace companies and contractors. It has a representation from the New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) and the Picatinny Innovation Center.
Workforce, Talent Supply and Education Committee – This committee links local educational institutions and economic development agencies to better link labor supply and demand in Morris County. Members include the President of the County College of Morris, the Superintendent of the Vocational School District, and the Director of the Workforce Development Board for Morris, Sussex and Warren.
Morris@Work – Outward facing committee providing data and thought-leadership to the County’s human resources professionals. We meet quarterly, often at a host business’s location. Webinars are provided on an ongoing basis.
Parks, Recreation & Tourism committee – This committee is a collaborative effort of the MCEDC, Tourism, and County Parks Commission. The MCEDC recognizes that tourism is an economic driver and contributes positively to quality of life within the county. Therefore, collaboration among the organizations is vital to long term sustained economic growth within Morris County. The mission of the committee is to promote the assets of the county through collaborative strategic planning, social media marketing efforts, and joint events.
Arts & Culture Committee – This committee is a collaborative effort with Morris Arts, Mayo Performing Arts Center and other arts organizations. The MCEDC recognizes that arts and culture is an economic driver contributing to our quality of life. We see collaboration among the organizations as vital to long term sustained economic growth within Morris County. Our mission is to maintain an inventory of arts organizations within the county, quantify economic impact of the arts, create/update a creative placemaking plan and to connect arts organizations with businesses and resources to further their missions.
Municipal Council – This council features elected and appointed representatives of the thirty nine (39) local governments, local EDC representatives and local chambers of commerce in Morris County. The intent is to engage the voices and perspectives of municipal government officials in a discussion of development issues such as planning, zoning, infrastructure, and regulation. Seminars, webinars, workshops and speakers are provided on a quarterly basis.
